Paint by numbers. But with friends.

FillGood is a cozy online color-by-number game. Pick a picture, send a link, and up to 24 people fill in the same picture at the same time. Live, in the browser. Everyone's cursor sits on screen with their name on it. Like Figma, except the deliverable is a hedgehog.

No account. No download. No excuse.

Mistakes are technically impossible

Every square has a number. Take the wrong color and nothing happens. The square just sits there, unimpressed. Nobody can paint over your work, nobody can wreck a picture, there is nothing to moderate and nothing to undo.

That's the whole difference to r/place-style canvases: this one can only ever get prettier.

What that looks like in practice

  • Ten seconds from link to painting. You send a room link, they click it, they're in. No sign-up, no lobby, no tutorial gate.
  • Live cursors with names. You watch someone else chew through the sky while you do the water. It is weirdly compelling.
  • Rooms stay put. Close the tab, come back tomorrow. The picture is waiting exactly where you left it. Your friends may have moved on without you.
  • Your cursor talks. Hit /, type, and a small speech bubble floats next to your cursor and fades out. Four reactions (👀 ❤️ 😂 🎉) for the typing-averse. No chat log, no history, nothing to moderate.
  • Paint with strangers. One community picture is always open. Walk in, do a corner, leave. No friends required.
  • The room votes on what's next. Finish a picture and three candidates come up. Ten seconds, one click each, majority wins, and everybody moves into the new room together instead of scattering back to the start screen.
  • Your phone works too. Same rooms, same pictures, thumbs instead of a mouse.
  • Alone is fine. Solo is the whole game, just quieter.
  • English and German, switchable in the top right.

The pictures

19 right now, from 64×48 all the way up to 400×250. That last one is 100,000 squares. They're sorted by how much of your life they intend to consume:

DifficultySquares
After work under 10,000
Weekend under 20,000
Sabbatical under 60,000
Retirement 60,000 and up

An alpine lake at golden hour. A beer garden under chestnut trees. Berlin at night. A pretzel counter. A hedgehog in autumn leaves. A Christmas market in the snow. A few are mystery pictures. You find out what you painted by painting it.

New ones land regularly.

Free. The boring, actual kind of free.

No subscription. No ads over the canvas. No "watch a video to keep painting." No picture packs held hostage behind a paywall. The whole game is free. And if you want to chip in for the server bill, the donate button up there is the entire business model.

Day one: 1,046,961 squares filled in, 49 pictures finished together, and one room where 17 people painted at the same time. The fastest picture took seven minutes and twelve pairs of hands.

On the list

Planned, not promised, no dates attached:

  • Highscores. Who filled the most squares, per picture and all-time. Cozy, but with bragging rights.
  • More ways to play. The current mode is calm and cooperative. It doesn't have to be the only one.
  • XP and meta progression. Squares you fill should add up to something that carries across rooms instead of resetting every time you close the tab.
  • Controller support. The input layer was built for it from day one, because cozy games belong on a Steam Deck.
  • Free forever. Whatever gets added on top, playing FillGood stays free and there will never be a subscription.

Something broken? Something missing?

The Discord is the fastest way to reach me, and it's where the last few features came from: bigger pictures, per-player progress bars and the cursor chat all started as somebody complaining.
